The castle of Porto de Mós, also known as Castle D. Fuas Roupinho, is located in the town with the same name, Parish of St. Peter, District of Leiria, Portugal. Built on a hill, in a dominant position above the village, its name is linked to D. Fuas Roupinho, immortalized in the verses of Camões (ancient Portuguese famous poet).
It is believed that the occupation of the site dates back to prehistory, according to fragments of pottery recovered by archaeological researchers. From the period of the Roman occupation, the probable date in which the frist defence of the village took place, Latin coins and inscriptions on stone were collected and identified. The primitive defence would have been increased in the following centuries, successively by The Visigoths and the Muslims.
